The TRIbe Triathlon Club offers a weekly, coached, high-intensity run workout (track or cross-country) as a free benefit to its members. Designed by coach Eric Bean as part of the be-an-athlete group triathlon training program, the scientific and periodized run training is challenging and fun. It incorporates both the latest research in physiology and neuromuscular biomechanics, as well as tried and true techniques. Additional coaching and training is available in either group or individualized formats through the be-an-athlete program. As a proud TRIbe sponsor, be-an-athlete offers all TRIbe members a free introductory week of training, and a free month of training when signing up for three months. Workouts meet at either the De Anza college track homestretch or in front of the bathrooms at Rancho San Antonio at 6:15 pm every Tuesday evening. Check the TRIbe calendar for details about the workout and its location. For the past several years, Eric has balanced professional coaching and athletic careers with academics. He has served as the TRIbe Track Coach since 2001, and was formerly the track coach for the Silicon Valley Triathlon Club. Bean took on the Head Coaching position for the Men’s and Women’s triathlon teams at Stanford University in 2000 and generated immediate success. The rookie team raced to 4th at the 2001 USAT Collegiate National Championships and repeated the feat in 2002 with a new crop of athletes. Individual performances include 6 top-10 and 3 top-3 placings. Additionally, this year Bean coached 4 athletes to World Championship qualifying, two of them in both Olympic and long distance triathlon. As an athlete, Eric is a professional triathlete, a two-time member of the Long Distance National Team, and age group world champion at the 1998 Hawaii Ironman. He competed as an NCAA Division I swimmer and runner at the University of Virginia. He then added competitive cycling to the mix at Stanford with two top-10s at 2001 NCCA Track Championships, and an 8th in the Conference Championship road race in 2002. Bean will graduate from Stanford this December 2002 with a Masters degree in Biomechanical Engineering focusing on biomedical device design. Get To Know Eric: |
