Dear Eric,
My Sandman race was fabulous on Sunday. I was 2/14 in my division, I was very shocked. I felt great the whole time, and took 12 minutes off of my times from the past two years, for 1:46. My swim time still sucked, 17:30 for a half mile, I am getting slower in my old age and should try to do something about this, but your training for the bike and run has made all the difference! The race should have been called the kelpman, because the beach was covered in seaweed, that made the run quite a drag, and slippery, but I survived and had a great time, even with a huge blister on my instep. Thanks for the great coaching and encouragement.
See you tomorrow,
Terry

thanks for the well wishes....I had a heck of a marathon to finish an incredible IM experience. Still a little sore today. Thanks so much for your training and guidance...hope to see the crew on Thursday at de anza...kd
Hey, I had a race too! I think your training is really paying off for me Eric, I did 8 minutes faster in the Monterey Bay Tri, than last year, and I was 3rd in my age group, I think I was 6th last year. I got one of their nifty sand trophies, I was pretty excited. Honestly though, the best part was that I was only 20 secs behind Aaron, he wasn't too thrilled about that I don't think. We both did 1:43 something, I had a great bike and run, for me, I did the 4 mile run in about 30 mins, under 8 min miles for me is new. Unfortunately some lady kicked me in the eye in the swim, she decided to do side stroke kick all of a sudden, I had to put my goggles back on, and later discovered I have a cut under my eye. It was all great fun though.
See you Wed.
Thanks for all the help that is really paying off!
Terry
Eric,
Had a great weekend and have to thank you again for the awesome training. We're going to stomp all over this Ironman thing. My IT band is still acting up but hoping that the taper will allow it to come around.
Yesterday, I was hunting Dorn down on our run and felt good doing it (~7:30 pace during the second hour). My legs are a little beat today but with a good stretch and swim at lunch and yoga tonight, I'll feel much better.
We're all looking pretty damn strong out there. Should be a lot of fun in Placid.
Kevin
Hey Eric
Had an amazing race yesterday! so excited that I had to tell you! Totally PR'd on the run, took 3 minutes off my 10K! Took a minute off my swim from last year, first time I didn't finish at the bottom of my age group in the swim, actually finished in the middle of the pack. My average mile/hour on the bike was also a little faster than last year, but it's not reflected in my time b/c I had to stop to fix my chain (it fell off) so I ended up doing about the same time wise. The run though was amazing!!! I got to the first mile marker and felt awesome, looked down at my watch and I'd done a 7:36 and I was shocked! I thought something had to be wrong. Got to the 2nd mile marker and same thing, felt great and my time was 15:10. Ended up doing a 46:52, last year did 49:48, which was originally my best 10K. I felt good the entire run. My overall time was about 4 minutes faster than last year. The best part is I still felt good after the race and today. Thought my body would be just fried but i'm amazingly feeling good. And to top it off I got Chris McCormack’s autograph :) So a great day overall!!!
Just had to share
See you tomorrow

2:40.22!!!
I'm thrilled...thanks to you for some great prep work...I feel goood. I did the race in 2000 and went 3:03. kd
Hey Eric,
Seems that your training has been more beneficial than I expected. Ended up posting a 4:45 which is about 15 min faster than I expected. I didn't even feel that worn down until the last 2 miles of the run and by then I was almost done so I decided to keep going fast. This is a huge motivating factor for me going into Utah considering I had come off of a hard workout the weekend before. Anyway, the down side is that I'm a little more sore than I think I should be with respect to our conversation last week about me taking it easy. I'll miss the track workout tomorrow, but will be at the workout on Wed. See you then and thanks for the training. What are the chances I double the time at Utah and get a Hawaii slot. Wishful thinking, yeah I thought so too. Dave
Eric,
I just wanted to thank you (again), for all of your help and advice at the Track workouts. I know that I've told you how these workouts have increased my speed, strength and mental discipline when it comes to training and competing, but I though that I share with you my results from the Bit Sur Marathon I ran in yesterday.
I don't know how much you remember of my story (since so many people always talk to you at track) but here's a quick summery. I started training for the Silicon Valley Marathon last year, but at the same time I was interested in triathlons. So I was debating about doing a "Tri for Fun" and during a training ride, I broke my hand when my foot got stuck in the clip-in peddle (this accident happened about 9 weeks before the marathon). So I ended up having my arm in a cast for 11 weeks (actually 3 different casts) and prevented me from training and competing in Silicon Valley Marathon.
With John Gresham's advise and help I ended up joining TRIbe, since I knew that the idea of triathlons was one of those things in the back of my head that I could never really let go of. But at the same time I felt that I still needed to prove something to myself, it felt that as if something was missing. It turns out that 'something' was I needed to know that I could complete a marathon, which lead me to sign up for Big Sur (since it was the first really big marathon of the season).
I'm not sure how familiar you are with the course, but it's considered a relatively difficult marathon due to the 2-mile hill between miles 10 and 12, and the rolling hills between 20 and 26. This probably wasn't the easiest marathon for me to chose for my first ever marathon, but the timing was right so I signed up. And yesterday morning I ran north on Highway 1 from Big Sur to Caramel, and with the Pacific Ocean on my left I crossed the finish line with a official time of 3:52.48. (I placed 24th in my age group and 520th overall out of 4000 some odd runners). If someone had told me a couple of years ago that I would be capable of completing a marathon, yet this course and doing it under 4 hours I never would have believed them. Hell, if someone told me this at the beginning of the year I probably wouldn't have believed them.
So basically, since I probably won't be a track tomorrow (I get a day of two to recover, right) I wanted to share this with you and say thanks one more time.

i'm just finishing up a little lunch break and got your email, you are a superstud! Thanks so much for being in touch about everything, and taking time to send me workouts...I know I must be a pain to you sometimes because I can never make the workouts that you already spend time making for the team, so know that I really appreciate your efforts!!!!! too many exclamations are not good for you, but seriously, it's so much fun to be doing this stuff again, and you are a great coach. smile today knowing that you rock.
deliveries await,
