History
TRIbe was launched in the fall of 2000 by a dedicated group of long-time Bay Area triathletes. They felt there was a niche for a smaller, “boutique” club with an emphasis on racing and social camaraderie.
One of TRIbe’s first missions was to offer cash sponsorships to up-an-coming local pros, as a way to help them pay for the large travel expenses of racing throughout the world. “Graduates” of this program include Becky Lavelle, Alexis Waddel, Erin McCarty, Linda Gallo, Chad Hawker, Sebe Ziesler, Victor Plata, Eileen Castillo and Andy Kelsey. The program was incredibly successful at helping launch the careers of these outstanding US athletes who have gone on to compete at national and world championships and the Olympic Games!
TRIbe remains committed to its founding values today – to give back to the community and promote the sport. In 2001 TRIbe sponsored ”The Ultimate Kids Triathlon” and in 2004 we launched the first annual “Girls on the Run” 5K race for the Silicon Valley chapter. TRIbe members continue to serve as GOTR coaches and race-day volunteers. The club promotes volunteer opportunities throughout the year and encourages members to support local races.
We look forward to the future evolution of TRIbe and the sport of triathlon with excitement and optimism. We will continue to grow with the mission that our founding members set forth - Train, Race, Party!
About Us - Train, Race, Party
TRIbe’s membership is smaller than many local clubs so we can maintain a tight-knit, welcoming feel. Our total membership is close to 100 people, but every effort is made to ensure that members actually know each other. We have regular social events, clinics and, of course, workouts - most of which are free to members. TRIbe can even claim a few marriages and several long-term friendships as a result of this atmosphere.
TRIbe members have also made a commitment to the sport. We seek dedicated, passionate triathletes who look for continuous improvement. We offer these dedicated athletes an environment to meet other like-minded individuals and to benefit from TRIbe's affiliation with top companies and coaches. Members also benefit from training events and clinics run by our coach and other top professionals. And after all that hard work, we like to end a long day of training or racing by sharing a cold drink, eating and celebrating with our teammates.
In conclusion, TRIbe never set out to be the biggest triathlon club. We seek members who have made the commitment to the athletic lifestyle, who desire the thrill of competition, but are humble enough to realize that there’s more to life than triathlon and perhaps the greatest benefit of the sport are the relationships we build along the way. TRIbe is more than a club: we’re training partners, a support system, A TEAM!
